One-day seminar on creating awareness about needs of specially-abled children

PAMPORE: The Psychological Counseling Cell under the aegis of IQAC Govt Degree College, Pampore organized One Day Seminar on the title, “Creating Awareness about needs of Specially-Abled Children”. Professor Shah Lateef, Convener Psychological Counseling Cell gave the backdrop about the programme and emphasized the importance of creating such cells in the college under the initiative of Atma Nirbar Bharat.
Professor Seema Naz Principal of the host college was the keynote speaker and presented a paper on the “Needs of Specially Abled Children and their Redressal Mechanism in Higher Education Institutions”. In her address she focused on creating space and empathy for the Specially Abled Children and to shift from equality to equity and emancipation model of Inclusive education such that the objective laid by NEP 2020 of Equitable Inclusive Education by 2030 can be achieved.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Wani, Divisional Coordinator Psychological Counseling Cell Kashmir spoke about some Psychological disorders. Dr. Showkeen Bilal Gull, HOD Education, GDC Boys Pulwama talked about New and Innovative strategies in special education. Professor Jan Mohammad, Deptt. of English, GDC Boys Pulwama talked about the importance of counseling for the Specially Abled Children. Professor Tariq Bashir, Department of History, GDC Uttersoo talked about his personal experience that he faced being visually impaired and stressed the important role of family & parenting in dealing with the impairment. Shahnawaz Samoon, Research Scholar shared his personal experiences in which he talked about lack of awareness about policies and their implementation in J&K.
He said that the physical barriers and discrimination is what disables the differently abled children. While concluding Professor Suhail Salam, District Counselor Psychological Counseling Cell, District Pulwama lauded the efforts of Principal Professor Seema Naz and Convener Psychological Counseling Cell Professor Shah Lateef for organizing the Seminar on a very important theme. He also appreciated the resource persons for their presentation on the said title. Dr. Bazigha Badar, HOD EVS presented the Vote of thanks.
The faculty from South Kashmir Colleges and students attended the seminar.
