SUMBAL: A massive Protest was on Monday held against the Power Development Department (PDD) at Naninara village in Sumbal area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district against hike in monthly tariffs.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader that dozens of residents assembled on the road at Naninara area of Sumbal and blocked the Bandipora – Srinagar road, disturbing the traffic for hours together.
The protest resulted in heavy traffic jams on Srinagar- Bandipora highway.
The protester were shouting slogans against the PDD for initiating such a move even when it has failed to provide uninterrupted electricity.
They said that the PDD was making the locals suffer by resorting to such decisions unilaterally.
The protesters said that they fail to understand the logic behind the sudden hike in the electricity bill.
“Hikes in power tariff are increasing our sufferings. We are unable to pay double electricity bills,” the locals said.
Meanwhile, a similar protest was also reported in Dachina area of Bandipora district against the hike in monthly tariff.
People appealed to the LG administration to look into the matter and roll back the decision of hike in monthly tariffs.
