Villagers rescue leopard cub in Pulwama village

Shopian: A day after the killing of a leopard at Oudur village of Shopian, villagers off far of Cheki Badrinath village in Pulwama village captured a leopard cub, which was handed over to wildlife officials on Thursday.
Officials said that their men reached the village after walking 13 kilometers on foot to save the animal.
They said that it was caught by the villagers and they had put it in two empty apple crates and even provided the animal healthy food.
Mudasir Ahmad, In-Charge control room wildlife department told Kashmir Reader that the animal will be sent to rehabilitation centre before it will be feasible to release it in its natural habitat. He said that the cub is almost five month old.
Earlier on Tuesday night, a young leopard was killed at Oudur village after it mauled nine sheep to death. On Wednesday evening two more leopards were spotted in the village at the same location.
Ahmad said that his team is there and they have installed traps to rescue both of them. “We are hopeful that both of them will be caught tonight,” he said.
