BA students from Women’s College MA road protest, seek early declaration of results

Srinagar: Scores of second semester students pursuing Bachelor’s in Arts at Government Women’s College M A Road in Srinagar have alleged discrepancies in the results of their semester end exams owing to “negligence” by the college authorities, who however cite “technical errors” for the discrepancies.
The college authorities said that the erroneous results will be fixed in the next couple of days while maintaining that some students, who had not appeared in the exams, at all, were also demanding their results on the pretext of the said error.
Scores of students, who on Saturday held a sit in at Press Enclave Lal Chowk against college authorities alleged that the latter had “neglected” to add the awards of the internal and external assessment to their overall score which had rendered their recently declared semester end results “Not Available”.
The internal assessment of the students was held by the respective teachers last year before the outbreak of the COVID-19 lockdown while as their externals were held by the college this year through online mode in view of the prevailing pandemic, the students told Kashmir Reader.
They said that in the result of their second semester declared Wednesday, the awards of either internals or externals of scores of them were missing “solely because the college authorities have forgotten adding the scores to the final marks”.
The students alleged that the “negligence” on part of their college had put their careers at stake “for none of our fault” as it might cause an undue delay in their degrees.
They further alleged that the concerned officials at Women’s College M A Road were “harassing” them for raising their voice against the “injustice”.
The college authorities, the students alleged, had told them to clear the affected papers in the backlog exams instead of rectifying the erroneous results.
“Why should we go for the backlog exams when it is bound to delay our degrees? ” asked a student.
The aggrieved students demanded authorities at Women’s College M A Road and Cluster University Srinagar to which they are affiliated to fix the erroneous results in order to save their careers.
Coordinator of Examinations at Women’s College M A Road, Prof Masood A Malik however said that the discrepancies in the students’ semester-end results were due to “technical error on the side of the Cluster University, Srinagar” of which the college is a constituent.
Prof Masood said that the results of the affected students, “who have indeed appeared in the exams” shall be fixed in the next couple of days. But he added that some students, who had not appeared in the exams, at all, were also unjustifiably demanding their results.
In-charge Registrar Cluster University Srinagar, Dr Khurshid Ahmad while talking to Kashmir Reader called it an “offence” on part of the respective Heads of the respective Departments for their negligence over sending over the final awards of the students’ assessment to the university.
As per the Registrar CUS, many teachers at respective constituent colleges have forwarded multiple awards of individual students.
He said the university had directed such erring colleges to fix the erroneous awards adding the fixed results will be declared shortly.
