MVD Kulgam realises Rs 40k fine from violators

KULGAM: Following complaints against flouting of traffic rules by commercial passenger vehicles, the ARTO Kulgam today laid Nakka checking in different parts of Kulgam and challaned more than 50 such vehicles and realized a fine to the tune of Rs. 40,000 for violating the norms.
A team of Motor Vehicle Department, Kulgam led by Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Kulgam, Dr. Mohammad Zubair Lattoo conducted Nakka checking at different locations viz Sangus Crossing, Chawalgam Bye pass, Laroo Byepass and Shopian Adda and a total of 200 vehicles were checked and fine under various provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act and other rules was realised.
Dr Zubair said that the team of the Motor Vehicle Department also removed extra seats from the passenger vehicles which were being used to carry the extra passengers.
The inspection team also informed the people about their duties towards observing traffic norms and road safety rules while traveling and said that it was the prime duty of the commuters to raise their voice against overloading and use of mobile phones by the drivers at the time of driving.
ARTO Kulgam warned the drivers of passenger vehicles to strictly adhere to the traffic rules to avoid any action from the department. He said the checking of vehicles would continue in coming days.
