Leopard caught after attacking man in Tangmarg area

BARAMULLA: A leopard was caught soon after attacking a middle aged man in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday morning.
Official sources said that a middle aged person identified as Mohammad Ramzan Ganie a resident of Merchipora Tangmarg was attacked by a leopard on Wednesday morning outside of his home. The injured person was shifted to hospital for treatment, where he is said to be stable.
Range officer wildlife department for Gulmarg Naseer Ahmad Rawa said that soon after the incident a team of wildlife officials reached the spot and tranquilized the leopard who had taken shelter over a cow shed.
Meanwhile, the locals of Rangwar area of Baramulla said that a leopard is roaming in the locality from past few days and he killed scores of stray dogs in the area. They said due to the increasing movement of leopards a fear has been gripped among the locals.
Range officer wildlife department Baramulla Altaf Ahmad Koul assured that they will install a cage on Thursday in the area and they will catch the leopard.
However, both the officials appealed to people living along the forest and orchard areas not to venture outside their home in morning and evening hours alone, the people should go one to another place in groups and they should have a proper lighting system and sticks in hand.
