Black bears on prowl in Kandi Baramulla, several domestic animals killed

Wildlife officials sound alert

BARAMULLA: The residents of several villages of Kandi Baramulla are living in constant fear from the past over a week after the increasing movement of a sleuth of black bears in the area. They said from the past few days a group of three black bears are roaming in Dubbug village of Kandi in its surrounding areas. They said around four domestic animals including two cows were also killed by the beasts.
“We are continuously living under threat from several days after so many people saw the pack of bears and they also killed several domestic animals” Abdul Majeed a local said.
We are not going to nearby Mosques for morning and evening prayers due to increasing movement of sleuth of bears, he added.
The local people appealed to the concerned authorities to take immediate steps and catch these bears as soon as possible so that they can live without fear.
Range officer wildlife department Baramulla Mohammad Altaf Koul confirmed that they also received information from the area and a team has been sent to the area. “Yes I too received information from the locals of the area, on Monday a team of wildlife officials visited the area where they are going to install a cage on Tuesday, I assure you that we will install a cage on Tuesday morning in the area to trap the bears” Koul to Kashmir Reader on Monday.
