GDC B’la conducts extension lecture to commemorate Human Rights Day

SRINAGAR: The NSS units in collaboration with Department of Political Science, Government Degree College (GDC), Baramulla today organized an online lecture to observe the Human Rights Day here.
On the occasion, an extension lecture titled, ‘Stand Up for Human Rights during COVID-19 Pandemic: Challenges and Opportunities’, that was in tune with this year’s theme: “Recover Better: Stand Up for Human Rights” was organised.
This theme relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery and rehabilitation efforts. It focuses on creating equal opportunities for everyone and addressing the failures and disappointments we all were exposed to due to COVID-19.
Advocate Syed Mujtaba, Lawyer, Child Rights, Srinagar was the Guest Speaker for the occasion. He presented a detailed account of origin, evolution, and current understanding of Human Rights to the participants with special reference to challenges and opportunities set off by COVID-19 pandemic.
Advocate Mujtaba also discussed threadbare the ways and means of standing up for human rights amid the challenges and crisis caused by COVID-19 pandemic. He said in order to have a fair and just post-COVID world, human rights are to be prioritized at all levels of the recovery and rehabilitation process. Earlier, Prof. Dr. A. R. Malik, Officiating Principal, GDC, Baramulla welcomed the guest and participants. In his inaugural address he enlightened participants about Human Rights, importance of educating masses on Human Rights and the importance of observing the day at different platforms, across the globe.
