Pattan villagers protest over lack of drinking water

BARAMULLA: The people in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Monday staged a protest for non availability of portable drinking water in the area. Locals said that large number of people including ladies and gents of Hanjiwera village of Pattan staged a protest against the Jal Shakti department who according to people have fail to provide them the portable drinking water in the area from a long time.
The shortage according to locals forced them to drink the dirty water from the nearby local streams, that could lead to outbreak of waterborne disease in the area.
The protesting people stopped the vehicular movement on the Srinagar Baramulla road for some and halted the traffic for some time.
Later Tehsildar Pattan Sheikh Salau-ud-din accompanied with Station House officer (SHO) Pattan Nisar Ahmad reached the spot and assured the protesting people that they will forward their grievance to the concerned department. Later protesters called off their protest peacefully. However they threatened that they will again stage protest if their problem will not be resolved.
