BARAMULLA: The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Government Degree College (GDC), Baramulla today organized an online extension lecture via Zoom platform themed ‘HIV: The Journey so far’ to commemorate the World AIDS Day.
This day is observed every year on December 03 across the globe by individuals, organizations, and institutions to bring attention to the Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, endeavor to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response toward ending the HIV epidemic.
Dr. Mohammad Lateef Charoo, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centre, SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar was the Guest Speaker on the occasion.
Prof. Syed Rehmat Shah, Head, Department of Zoology and acting Principal of the college welcomed the guests and participants.
He presented an inaugural address wherein he enlightened the participants about the HIV infection and threw light on the importance of increasing awareness and information about HIV infection and the practical implications of observing World AIDS Day at different platforms.
Dr. Charoo presented a detailed account of origin, evolution, and current understanding of HIV infection with special reference to Jammu and Kashmir. He also discussed threadbare the route(s) of HIV infection and how people used to construe this deadly disease in the times when it was first discovered.
The lecture was followed by a vibrant question-answer session and the speaker addressed the queries raised by participants to their utmost satisfaction.
