Power crisis, Sheeri residents hit the streets

BARAMULLA: Scores of people of Sheeri area of Baramulla on Tuesday hit the streets and staged a protest demonstration against the power development department (PDD) over shortage of electricity in the area.
Protesting people including the traders, men and women of the area blocked the Srinagar Muzaffarabad national highway at main market Sheeri for some times, shouting slogans against the PDD y alleging that from past several weeks all the area is suffering and the department is not solving their problems.
They said that students can’t read and traders whose trade is depends on electricity are also facing hardships.
On the occasion all the traders shut their shops in protest against the department.
However, the officials of the department said that people are consuming extra electricity in the winter due to which people are facing the shortage of electricity. “We are not happy when people are facing hardships but people in general should cooperate with the department and they should not use heaters and boilers” a senior official of the department said.
Block development chairman Narvaw Iqbal Ahmad Mir said that from past several weeks the overall area is suffering due to the shortage of electricity, that is why people hit the streets.
