Nine meat shops sealed in Pampore for violating govt approved rates, many violators fined

Pampore: Tehsildar administration, Pampore on Tuesday sealed at least nine meat shop sellers for violating the government approved rates for mutton and also imposed fine of around six thousand rupees on shopkeepers/vendors in Saffron town Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district
The Tehsil administration Pampore on Tuesday conducted a special drive against meat sellers and sealed nine meat shops for selling meat on much higher rates.
During the drive joint team of Revenue department, Police Pampore and Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs led by Tehsildar Pampore sealed nine meat sellers in Kadlabal, Drangbal and Namblabal Pampore.
The joint teams of Revenue department led by Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din, SHO Pampore Manzoor Ahmad, Sub Inspector Adil Ahmad, Food Safety, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCSCA) also inspected various markets in Saffron town including Kadlabal, Drangbal and Namblabal Pampore and conducted surprise check of various shops including vegetable and fruit selling outlets, road side vendors and realized fine of Rs. 6,000 from the erring shopkeepers/vendors, officials told Kashmir Reader.
“We had received complaints from many areas about meat sellers selling meat in early morning hours on higher rates. We carried out checking in many areas in Saffron town Pampore and found many meat sellers violating government fixed rates. The drive against such violators will continue,” Tehsildar Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din told Kashmir Reader.
He also appealed to the people to cooperate with admin and register complaints against the violators.
“Many financially sound people in nexus with meat sellers buy the meat early morning against the rates fixed by the meat sellers. People should object to any violation or overcharging and register complaints with the administration instead of helping the meat sellers succeed in their designs of finishing their stock early morning” Tehsildar said.
The local residents of Saffron town Pampore hailed the drive saying that it will help in maintaining the normal rates in the market, locals said.
Government last week fixed Rs 480 for mutton per kg. The decision was rejected by the meat sellers association Kashmir who threatened to shut their shops if the decision was not revoked.
