Rafique Rather elected EJAC president

BARAMULLA: Senior trade union leader and chairman JK teachers forum Mohammad Rafique Rather a resident of north Kashmir’s Baramulla has been elected as president employees joint action committee (EJAC) which the elections held on Monday.
In a statement to press, EJAC said that election committee nominated by EJAC held the election on 16th November 2020, for the post of president EJAC. Chairman of the election commission Nazir Ahmad Khan along with other members exercised due care and transparency during the poll process. Representatives of almost all the department trade unions and corporations took part in the democratic process of voting at PHE office Srinagar. Election results were declared soon after the polling was over.
They said the election commissioner announcing the results declared Mohammad Rafique Rather successful candidate for the post of president EJAC in presence of thousands of employees who had gathered there in support of their leader. The employees raised pro EJAC and pro Rather slogans amid cheers. Rathar was received with flower garlands by various leaders and supporters present on the occasion.
During his maiden speech to a huge gathering of employees newly elected president Rather applauded and appraised the honest efforts of election commission which worked day in and day out under the able leadership of N A Khan. Rather maintained that election commission has fulfilled the long pending demand of around 5 lakh employees of J&K and has taken this democratic process to logical end.
Rather thanked all the heads of the units affiliated with EJAC for facilitating the process of election and for casting their votes for strengthening the fabric of democracy. Rather said that EJAC is the only integrated platform of employees which came into being to restore the honour and dignity of employees since decades and said that to strengthen the basic structure of EJAC and to maintain its unity shall be his first priority. Demands of employees working in various departments will be taken on priority and the genuine demands of daily wagers and casual labourers working in Jammu and Kashmir shall be viewed seriously and their exploitation can’t be tolerated anymore he aaded.
Rather said that circulars and orders issued from time to time by the government of JK to demoralize and demonise the employees community needs to be defended by democratic and legal procedure. Rather appealed senior leaders of EJAC to stand united and cohesive for immediate redressal of demands of employees and he stressed that we need to reinvigorate the spirit and soul of EJAC for restoring the dignity and honour of its employees. Rather thanked all employees present on the occasion who had come from far flung areas for his support and welcome. He assured them that EJAC will come up to their expectations for resolving their genuine issues and to protect their self respect. Rafique Rather also thanked persons from electronic and print media for their support and highlighting the voice of employees of JK.
