People stage protest against BRO, PDD in Uri Baramulla

BARAMULLA: The people in border town Uri held a protest against the border roads organisation (BRO) and power development department (PDD) on Wednesday who according to them have failed to provide them the basic facilities like road and electricity.
Reports said that a large number of people from different villages of Uri including Gharkot, Balkot, Sillkot, Thajal, Mothal, Syedpura and others gathered at main market Uri and staged a protest against the BRO and PDD. The protesters alleged that the condition of the Srinagar Muzafarabad highway at main market Uri is worst and the concerned agency who is responsible for it are not paying attention towards the road, resulting in the shopkeepers, transporters and general public are facing hardships. They said there are scores of potholes on the road and the concerned agency who has responsibility to maintain it are sleeping due to which people are facing problems.
Chairman civil society Uri, Shabir Ahmed Chalko said that there are scores of potholes on the road, dust and doost but the concerned organisation completely failed to repair it. He said last year when people staged protests against the concerned agency, the administration had assured us that they will approach the agency and will magadamise it, however year passed but they can’t do it.
Chairman traders federation Uri, Haji Mohammad Shafi blamed that the area is facing shortage of electricity from past two months and the concern state department PDD is playing mind game with people, he said there are at least three power houses who are providing electricity to half of the India but the people of Uri are facing problems.
The protesters blocked the road at least for two hours and were seen shouting slogans against the both agencies. Later deputy Tehsildar Uri Mushtaq Ahmad Blot reached the spot and assured protesting people that he will forward their grievance to higher ups so that they will solve the issues. Later the protesters disperse peacefully.
