Man kills neighbour with axe, then goes to police and surrenders

Baramulla: An elderly man was killed by his neighbour with an axe in Pohrupeth village of Handwara in Kupwara district late on Thursday evening.
Sources said that a person named Abdul Jabar Dar, 65, son of Gulam Ahmad Dar, resident of Pohrupeth village Handwara, was attacked by his neighbour Farooq Ahmad Dar with an axe near Sagipora bus stop. The elderly man sustained grave injuries and by the time he was taken to a nearby hospital, doctors there declared him brought dead.
The family members of the deceased person alleged that Abdul Jabar was on his way home from his orchards when Farooq attacked him with an axe and killed him.
Er Manzoor Ahmad Dar, the nephew of Abdul Jabar, said that Farooq’s father had passed away last year after illness but Farooq believed that Abdul Jabar was responsible for his father’s death.
He added that Farooq Ahmad Dar, who runs a poultry farm, had attacked Abdul Jabar last year as well but some people had saved him.
Manzoor said that Farooq has been arrested by police but the family wants the severest penalty for the murderer. His uncle had at least three deep injury marks of the axe on his head, Manzoor said.
Local sources said that Farooq himself went to the police station with the axe (murder weapon) and confessed that he had killed Abdul Jabar Dar. Now Farooq’s two other brothers have been called by police for questioning, the sources said.
The sources said that Abdul Jabar was laid to rest at the local graveyard on Friday at 11am, and a large number of people participated in his funeral prayers.
A police officer said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and police are investigating the case through all angles.
