DDC Kupwara orders measures to curb illegal extraction of minor minerals

KUPWARA: District Development Commissioner, (DDC), Kupwara, Anshul Garg today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the working of Geology and Mining Department, Kupwara.
The meeting also discussed various preventive measures to control and curb the illegal extraction of minor Minerals including sand and bajri from nallahs across the district.
The DDC gave directions to police and other concerned departments to give full support to the Geology and Mining Department in controlling illegal extraction of minor Minerals from nallah Mawer, Chogul and other places like Khazanmati, Shumnag and Gugloosa.
It was also decided that the Geology and Mining Department shall conduct a comprehensive drive in the field and install sign boards at all vulnerable sites, where illegal extraction is done during night hours.
The department was also given authorization for road cut leading to nallahs and quarries to ensure cent percent control over illegal extraction of sand.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that field work by all stakeholders is a must to make preventive measures successful. He also stressed the need for involving BDCs in the process to ensure greater success.
Earlier, the District Mineral Officer, Mumtaz Ahmad Shah gave a detailed resume about the functioning of the department.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Nazir Ahmad Lone, ASP Kupwara, DFO Kehmil, District Information Officer, District Mineral Officer, representative of SP Handwara and DFO Langate and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
