Physical Education Teachers hold protest, seek better wages, regularization

SRINAGAR: The Physical Education Teachers who have been selected under the Rehbar- e- Khel policy on Monday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding the regularisation of their services and increase of their salaries.
The protesting physical education teachers from various districts of the Kashmir Valley assembled here in a press enclave and chanted slogans “we want regularisation”, “we want justice” and “equal work equal pay”.
The protesting teachers said they are working for low wages in different schools across the Kashmir Valley but the government has not increased the wages of the teachers who have been selected under the Rehbar-e-Khel policy.
Javid Iqbal, one of the protesting physical education teachers said that we have been selected in the Rehbar-e-Khel policy that notice has been issued in 2017.
“We have completed our degrees in physical education subjects, when the government has issued the notification for the physical education teacher under the Rehbar-e-Khel policy. We have applied for it. We cannot apply for any posts except the physical education teacher,” He said.
” We are working in different schools as physical education teachers, but the government is providing us only three thousand rupees as a monthly wage which is a very big deal. We are demanding the government to increase our wages and regularisation of the services” he added
He further said that most teachers who have been selected as physical education teachers under the Rehbar-e-Khel policy are high qualified teachers. But the government should think about the families of those teachers which are working upon rupees three thousand in different schools of the Kashmir valley.
The protesting physical education teachers requested the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to look into the matter and increase their wages.
