Government to tap solar energy for meeting power demand in Schools

1400 schools across JK to get solar power plants

SRINAGAR: To overcome power crisis in schools, the government will be providing Solar Power Plants to 1400 schools across Jammu and Kashmir.
Disclosing this during meeting Principal Secretary, School Education and Skill Development, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, revealed that the department has provided Rs 102 crore to IT Department through JK e-Governance Agency (JAKEGA) to provide Solar Power Plants of 1KV and 5 KV categories to more than 1400 schools across Jammu and Kashmir. “It would help in tiding over the power crisis in schools to a greater extent”, he added.
Chief Engineer PDD (M&RE) Jammu/Kashmir was also presented in the meeting.
Earlier in a separate meeting Principal Secretary, School Education and Skill Development, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, took stock of grievances received on LG Grievances Cell from Panchayat representatives and prominent citizens of Kathua district regarding improvement in education infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, O P Bhagat, Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Arun Manhas and other officers and officials of Education department through video conferencing.
Dr Samoon directed the officers to evaluate each of the grievances on its merits after visiting the sites and initiate action accordingly.
The Principal Secretary asked the concerned officers to ensure provision of clean drinking water, electricity, boundary wall, playground and other necessary conveniences in all schools. He exhorted upon them to utilize the funds optimally meant for the same. He asked them that students should be facilitated in every manner so that the teaching learning process continues unhindered.
Dr Samoon maintained that the process of teaching remains effective when it is conducted in a conducive environment. He said that curricular activities are as important as extra-curricular activities and the department is bound to provide all necessary facilities in this regard.
The meeting was informed that the department is in the process of providing each and every facility to the schools including IT tools and smart classes. Principal Secretary was further informed that the basic amenities like clean water, separate washrooms, playgrounds etc are provided to every school.
