Subject: Online exams for B.Ed distance education

To the Directorate of Distance Education,

We the students of B.Ed distance education batch of 2018 have been pursuing this course for the last two years. Due to incessant lockdowns in Kashmir since last year when there was abrogation of Article-370 and now this year due to Covid-19, our academic institutions have kept us at bay. We also see that our senior batch of 2017 is pursuing the same course for the last four years. They have finished only two semesters as of now. We, on our part, have not finished even one.
Lately, the B.Ed examination forms have been issued for our batch (2018) for the first two combined semesters. It is a wonderful step and we welcome the decision taken by the Directorate of Distance Education. However, we request an online exam in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. We don’t want to put our lives at stake as many students would have to come to the exam centres from areas which have been declared Red Zones or from far-flung areas from where travel is difficult. In Kashmir all the academic institutions have been closed since March and the situation is still grim.
At the same time, many rumours keep floating that the final decision about exams has not been taken yet and they may be held online. We are unable to foresee if we have to sit in an examination centre or to appear in an online exam staying in our homes. We are aware that the PG diploma courses of 2018 batch and the backlog candidates through DDE appeared in online exams that were conducted in July. We have also come across news that B.Ed private colleges affiliated with University of Kashmir have been asked to submit names of enrolled students along with other important requisites for conducting their online exam. Therefore, we humbly request that the same provision of online exam be made for B.Ed students affiliated with Directorate of Distance Education.

Thanking you,
Mudasir Ali
