Protests continue in Srinagar against blasphemous video

Srinagar: Protests against ‘derogatory’ remarks by some people in Jammu against Prophet Muhammad (SAW), continued in Srinagar on second consecutive day on Tuesday, with protesters demanding stringent action against the self-styled godman.
Anguished over the comments, the protesters said “disrespect shown by a Hindu extremist, against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has left Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir wounded, and that the culprit deserves harshest punishment for attempting to disrupt communal brotherhood in newly carved out Union Territory.”
People from different sections of the society including students, social activists and academicians appeared from time to time at Press Enclave in Srinagar to register their protest against the derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by a Jammu based self styled godman.
It may be in place to mention a Hindu hardliner, Satpal Singh and his associate were arrested in Jammu city soon after the video wherein he had made remarks that hurt the sentiments of a particular community went viral on Sunday. Police also arrested third accused Rohit Sharma from Pacca Danga locality in connection with the case.
A case under sections 153A IPC (promoting enmity between different groups) 295A IPC (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religious beliefs) at Pacca Danga police station.
Holding placards which read “it’s better to kill us than to insult and abuse our religion, our prophet is our honor and hang the culprit”, the protesters amidst sloganeering assembled at Press Enclave and staged peaceful protests against blasphemous video. “We may tolerate anything but nothing against our beloved Prophet (SAW). Our prophet is our pride, our life and we will not hesitate to sacrifice our lives or take lives of those who show disrespect towards our religion,” said Wamiq, a protester from Srinagar.
He said the government keeping in view the love and respect of Muslims for their Prophet (SAW) should act tough against the cheeky fanatic. He also said the protests against insulting comments on the Prophet (SAW) would continue till the culprits are taken to task. “We appeal the administration to take immediate action against the self styled godman involved in the derogatory act,” Safwan, a student said.
