Govt building gutted in 2017 awaits repair

BUDGAM: The district administration here in Budgam has failed to reconstruct the government building that housed offices of three departments – Social Welfare, JK Board of School Education, and Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) – in Beerwah Tehsil. The building was gutted in fire in September 2017.
Residents of Beerwah told Kashmir Reader that even the boundary walls around the building stand broken, giving opportunity to drug addicts and anti-social elements to occupy the ruins.
“All the three offices that the building housed were shifted to rented buildings in different areas of Beerwah. Most people are not still aware about the new location of these offices,” said Wahid Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Beerwah.
Locals said that they would like the district administration or the Roads and Buildings department to reconstruct the old building soon.
The Assistant Executive Engineer at Roads and Buildings department in Beerwah tehsil told Kashmir Reader that a proposal has been already prepared for reconstruction of the gutted building.
Executive Engineer at Roads and Buildings department, Budgam, Asgar Ali Watali told Kashmir Reader that the proposal has been sent to the government.
“We are waiting for authorisation. We have also sent a proposal for the reconstruction of the walls around the building,” Watali said.
