SRINAGAR: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday sealed a commercial building being constructed at Hari Singh High Street in Amira Kadal.
The SMC took the action after neighbouring shopowners sent a written complaint to the SMC commissioner that the building was being constructed in violation of norms.
For nearly a year, the construction was going on and recently a bore well was dug right on the public footpath along the road. SMC’S Chief Enforcement Officer Syed Nisar had feigned ignorance about it.
“I had inspected the building. There was no construction, no bore well,” Nisar had told Kashmir Reader earlier.
Even one of the owners of the building had admitted the construction of the bore well while talking to this newspaper.
On Thursday, a team of SMC visited the spot and sealed the 1700 sq feet building.
Before the Kashmir Reader report, a complaint written by a trio of shop owners in the area – MA Gojwari and Sons, The Afzal and Co, and MS Gojwari and Co, sent to the SMC Commissioner had said that the fifth and the sixth floors of the commercial complex were erected during the lockdown, were illegal, and in violation of the building bye-laws.
The complaint mentioned that a court had issued a stay order against the construction of the commercial complex.
