SKUAST-K scientists & teachers association condems opening of liquor shops in Kashmir valley

SRINAGAR: SKUAST-K Scientists & Teachers Association (SSTA) strongly opposed the proposed administrative move of promoting liquor culture by opening the liquor shops across the Kashmir valley.
In a statement President SSTA, Prof S.A. Dar said that alcohol consumption not only increases social safety issues but has always been a reason for serious health concerns, adding that the government must realise that consumption of alcohol besides being injurious to health is prohibited by all religions.
“Kashmir is known for land of saints and Sufis and such disagreeable proposals will hurt the sentiments of people and also propagate immorality and crime in our society” Prof Dar added.
Dar further said that on one side the government is fighting the menace of drug addiction and surprisingly is attempting to throw our youth to Alcoholism”
Prof Dar cautioned that alcohol consumption is the root cause of many social issues and will encourage crime and domestic violence.
He said that the Government must follow Gujrat model in banning sale, storage and consumption of alcohol in the valley.
For economic reforms and boosting revenue, the government should give full attention for the development of Agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, aquaculture and tourism sectors .
If this proposal takes shape on the ground will destroy not only individuals and families but spoil our entire society and social fabric.
SSTA appeals the government authorities for immediate withdrawal of this anti society order.
