Residents of Frestabal Pampore protest against water scarcity

PAMPORE: Women in the Frestabal area of Pampore staged a protest on Wednesday against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide regular water supply to the area from past many days.
The protesting women also blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Frestabal halting the traffic movement for sometime.
The protesting women demanded immediate restoration of water supply.
“We had brought the issue to the notice of the concerned administration but no improvement has been witnessed yet,” said a protesting woman.
The protestors later dispersed peacefully after the police team and PHE employees reached the spot and assured the protestors that matter will be taken to higher authorities.
Assistant Engineer Pampore sub division Bashir Ahmad Thokar told Kashmir Reader that the department has already installed seventy five percent of the pipeline and the rest came to a halt due to Covid -19 lock down.
“We had orders not to continue any further works during the lock down that is why there was delay in further execution of the work,” he said, adding that since the lock down has been eased and orders to execute the existing works has been received so the work would start in next few days.
