Bijbehara: Militants opened fire at a patrol party of the paramilitary force CRPF Tuesday evening, killing one CRPF soldier, here in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district.
The killed CRPF man has been identified as Shiv Lal.
“For now that is all the details we have about the slain. We are ascertaining other details,” a senior police official from Bijbehara told Kashmir Reader.
Militants carried out the attack in Goriwan, the main market of Bijbehara town located along the old National Highway. The firing incident was reported at about 5:00 PM.
“Militants fired at a joint party of police and the CRPF. One of the paramilitary jawans was grievously injured in the firing,” the police official said.
He said that the injured CRPF man was rushed to nearby SDH Bijbehara and then to Anantnag Government Medical College . “But he succumbed on the way to Anantnag,” the police official said.
A doctor at GMC Anantnag said that the injured was declared brought dead. “He had several bullet wounds to his chest and was dead by the time they brought him here,” the doctor said.
Soon after the attack, a large contingent of government forces cordoned off the area and conducted searches to try and nab the attackers.
