Week-old militant killed in brief shootout in Baramulla

Baramulla: A youth who had joined militant ranks only a week ago was killed in a brief gunfight on Friday afternoon in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district.
Official sources said that after receiving specific information, government forces including army’s 32 RR, police and paramilitary CRPF launched a search operation in Shitloo village of Rafiabad on Friday afternoon. They said that during the search operation suspicious movement was noticed along the forest banks, soon fater which a brief gunfight took place in which a militant was killed.
The slain militant was later identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, 25, son of Sonaullah Bhat of Bhat Mohla, Shitloo village. Mudasar had gone missing a week ago and it was believed that he had joined militant ranks.
Mudasar Ahmad was one among five youths in Baramulla district who are missing from their homes for the past month.
Locals said that Mudasar Ahmad was a Hafiz e Quran and an Imam who led prayers in Sopore area. They said he had also been leading Friday prayers in his village before he went missing.
Locals said that in the evening police handed over Mudasar’s body to his family for last rites. A large number of people participated in his funeral.
Earlier, police had sought help of the general public in locating the five missing persons of district Baramulla, namely Mudasir Ahmad Bhat (25), Fayaz Ahmad War (34), son of Ghulam Mohiudin War of Bonpora Warpora Sopore, Bilal Ahmad Parry (34), son of Gulam Mohiudin Parry of Yamberzalwari Bala Zaingeer Sopore, Waleed Ahmad Mir (21), son of late Bashir Ahmad Mir of Behrampora Rafiabad, and Anayat Ullah Mir (26), son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir of Andergam Pattan.
The police and army in the evening said that one rifle, 3 magazines, and two hand grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain militant Mudasar.
