SMC starts city-wide sanitation drive

Srinagar: To combat the novel coronavirus, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started a massive sanitation drive across the city.
On Friday, SMC officials were seen gearing up men and machinery for carrying out the special sanitation drive in the city, especially at hospitals, roads, crowded places, the press club, and government departments.
An earlier order issued by the SMC Commissioner had asked all public/private hospitals to go into heightened sanitation/ sterilisation mode.
An SMC official said that regular spraying of sodium hypochlorite solution in public modes of transport will be carried out. Apart from that, the official said, “We are fumigating all hospitals, roads, and we are distributing pamphlets to make people aware of the virus.”
“We have identified various spots where the daily flow of garbage is huge. Staff associated with the collection of garbage will regularly monitor and maintain hygiene. Each ward has been strictly instructed to clear the garbage early morning and also sterilise the area,” he added.
Procurement of 1,000 full quarantine body-kits and spraying machines has been initiated to provide them to sanitation workers, apart from deployment of 200 teams of 5 persons each for special sterilisation at vulnerable hubs, the official said.
