Driver killed, associate injured after truck touches power line in Sopore

BARAMULLA: A truck driver was killed while his associate injured after their truck came in contact with a high tension (HT) transmission line in a Sopore village on Monday morning. Sources said that a truck was on its way to Zaingir area and driver of a truck adopted another route to avoid the traffic jam, however when it reaches in Gund Brath village it came in contact with touches a 11000 V power supply line resulting in instant death of the driver while his associate also received injuries and was later shifted to hospital for treatment. The deceased has been identified Waheed Ahmad Lone, son of Khazir Mohammad Lone of Zaloora, and injured as Gulzar Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Aziz Lone of Zaloora village. The two other people on board the truck jumped out and were saved. A team of Sopore police reached the spot for its investigation, a police officer said that a case has been registered and investigation is on. The local people of the area blamed that all the many HT power lines are too low at many places due to which people facing hardships. They said that maximum wires are tied with trees or with damaged wooden poles and the concern department is in deep slumber.
