Srinagar: Several people are feared to have died after the vehicle they were travelling rolled down a gorge on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Thursday evening.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban Nazim Zia Khan confirmed to Kashmir Reader that a cab fell into Chenab river at Ramban.
The exact number of passengers travelling in the vehicle could not be confirmed till this report was being published.
A traffic police official from Ramban said that the cab driver travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu was signaled to stop. But he refused to obey and moved ahead.
The highway was closed for traffic after rains triggered landslides and shooting stones at several places. Only one-way traffic was allowed to proceed on from Srinagar to Jammu on Thursday.
As soon as the word spread, rescue teams rushed to the spot to retrieve survivors.
