Police nabs thieves, recovers 74 batteries

AWANTIPORA: Police on Thursday said it has solved vehicle battery theft case and arrested three. The accused persons have been identified as Mohammad Amin Khan, son of Abdul Khaliq, resident of Tulbagh Pampore, Mohammad Younis Wagay, son of Abdul Ahad and Feroz Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Qadir, residents of Preng Hajin Sumbal, Bandipora. Police officer told Kashmir Reader that the theft happened during the intervening night of February 15 and 16 in which the thieves took away 74 batteries from shop owned by one Lukbeer Singh. “During the investigation, many suspects were called for questioning,” said SDPO Awantipora, Ajaz Ahmad in a press Conference on Thursday. “During a naka at Barsoo Awantipora, Taveera vehicle bearing registered number PB01A-2331 boarded by three persons including driver was intercepted and all the three persons were detained,” he said. “During questioning they confessed that they had committed crime and had utilized one more Taveera vehicle bearing registration number JK01X-5968 for committing the crime,” he said. He said that all stolen batteries were recovered and handed over to owner as per court orders. SDPO Ajaz also said that police have been investigating whether the accused have been involved in further crimes or not.
