Training programme ‘barefooted veterinarians’ starts at SKUAST-K

MANASBAL: A month long training programme for unemployed educated youth entitled, “Barefooted Veterinarians”started onTuesday here at Mountain Livestock Research Institute (MLRI)-Manasbal, SKUAST-K The training programme is organized by MLRI in collaboration with Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) for the unemployed youth of district Baramulla and Bandipore.

The event was inaugurated by Prof Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Extension in presence of Prof. M.S Mir, Director Research, SKUAST-K. The trainees besides theoretical and practical training on different livestock operations shall be exposed to the clinical and non clinical subjects of veterinary services at faculty of veterinary sciences, shuhama and various animal husbandry centres. More than 100 theoretical lectures as well as practical demonstrations by the veterinary scientists from MLRI and veterinary faculty, SKUASTK shall be delivered to the participants.

Dr. J.D Parra, Prof & Head, MLRI, SKUAST-K delivered welcome address and acquainted the participants about the training programme and its importance. Prof M.S Mir, Director Research in his address said that he is proud of being from a farming family rearing livestock and growing crop fields.

“Integrated farming is a viable option for the improving the livelihood of the marginal and small farmers” Prof Mir said Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Extension on the occasion `appreciated the efforts of MLRI for organizing such an innovative programme He impressed upon the participating trainees to take full advantage of the training and help growing the animal sector by delivering their valuable services to the farmers in the far and flung areas.
