Srinagar school denies school bus facility to student ‘out of vengeance’ against parent

Srinagar: After demanding transport charges from students for the months in which the school was closed due to last year’s Kashmir lockdown, the Doon International School, Srinagar, is allegedly denying the school bus facility to the ward of the parent who objected to the transport charges.
The school management has refuted allegations that they charged any transportation fee from the parents for the lockdown period.
Several parents whose wards are enrolled at Doon International School told Kashmir Reader that the school management had demanded the bus charges from their wards from August to October last year despite the fact that the school remained mostly closed during the period without any class work held.
Earlier, the school management did not even consider the orders of the divisional administration in October last year which forbid private schools from charging transportation fee from students for the lockdown period, parents alleged.
It was only after the intervention by the district administration Srinagar that the school management softened its stand, they added.
Now, when the issue had been put to rest through the intervention of the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, a parent said that the school, which opened on Monday, was denying the school bus facility to his ward enrolled in the 4th standard “with the excuse that there was no space in the bus”.
“I called up the school driver on Sunday to know the timing of the bus, but the driver told me that he had been asked by the management not to pick up my ward,” the parent alleged.
He further alleged that the school management was threatening to expel his ward from the institution “in vengeance”.
Vice Principal, Doon International School, MA Kamili refuted allegations that the school had demanded any transportation charges for the lockdown period.
Kamili feigned ignorance over the particular parent’s allegation that the school had denied the bus facility to his ward.
Director School Education Kashmir, Dr Mohammad Younis Malik said the directorate will issue show cause notice to the institution over the matter.
Pertinently, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan had in October last year directed private schools in the valley not to charge transport fee from students for the months-long lockdown which began on August 5 after the government of India abrogated Article 370.
