Crime Branch arrests police inspector for taking bribe

SRINAGAR: A police officer of the rank of assistant sub inspector was arrested in poonch after he was caught red handed taking bribe.
A statement issued here by the ACB said that ASI Mohd Amin posted of Police post Chinore, at Jammu was harassing and threatening a person with registration of FIR and arrest if he did not pay him bribe money of Rs. 50,000.
ACB had swung into action after a complaint was received about the police officer’s for his involvement in bribery.
“Soon after receipt of above complaint and verification of its genuineness, FIR No. 03/2020 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 r/w PC Act 1988 was registered at P/S ACB Jammu. Subsequently, a team of ACB officials along with the complainant and two Independent witnesses proceeded towards PP Chinore and laid a trap during which the accused ASI Mohd Amin was caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs. 10,000 of bribe money,” reads the statement.
“The accused ASI was immediately arrested in the aforesaid case FIR No. 03/2020 of P/S ACB Jammu. A search of the house of the accused situated at Laxmipuram, Chinore, Jammu was also carried out by a separate team of ACB officials in the presence of Magistrate,” the statement added.
The complainant, as per the ACB handout, had alleged that the accused ASI Mohd Amin had already received Rs. 10,000 as bribe money a couple of days ago, after he was persistent about it.
“The complainant also disclosed that he had pleaded with the accused ASI to reduce his demand as he was unable to cough up Rs. 50,000,” reads the statement.
The alleged corrupt ASI, as per the statement, had readied to not register an FIR against the complainant if he pays the money. The ASI had himself received a complaint against the complainant by his brother over some personal issues.
