Srinagar: Cluster University, Srinagar has proposed to hold internal examinations of its students through online mode-a proposal aimed at expediting student evaluation and fast track declaration of results, Kashmir Reader has learnt.
The proposed online internals, which will specifically comprise multiple choice questions as per officials, are expected to do away with the usual delay in the declaration of results caused by late dispatch of the students’ awards by the varsity’s constituent degree colleges.
A top official at the CUS said that the proposed online internals had been approved by the university bodies and will specifically comprise multiple choice questions, which will be evaluated much quicker as compared to the subjective question papers thereby expediting the student evaluation.
He said the required paraphernalia for holding the online internal examinations including computer labs would be set up at the varsity’s constituent colleges by the end of this year adding that the students’ internals, which are due by then, will likely be held through online mode.
The official informed that the estimated cost of each computer lab, where the students of the respective constituent colleges will appear in the online internals, was Rs 70-75 lakh excluding the lab furniture.
The varsity, he said, was in the process of purchasing the equipment adding that they had also factored in the frequent internet shutdowns in the project by including intranet facility in the project. The intranet is the net facility, which interconnects the constituent colleges of the CUS or any other varsity for that matter.
Confirming the development, Registrar CUS, Prof Abdul Hamid Sheikh said that the main computer lab for conducting the online internals had been identified at the varsity’s central library and will accommodate 100 students at a time.
The required funds for the purpose had been kept at their disposal by the Higher Education Department under the Capital Expenditure Budget, he said.
The Registrar however, was not sure whether the internals would be held through online mode from this year given the prevailing blockade of high speed internet in Kashmir.
“But, we can start the provision this year in case high speed internet is resumed,” he added.
Prof Sheikh said that the students of the constituent colleges will appear in the online internal exams at the main campus till the respective institutions develop their own infrastructure.
