Two wild life employees injured while trapping bears in civilian areas

5 bears caught in Tangmarg

Baramulla: Two employees of wild life department were injured on Sunday when they were trying to get hold of wild bears that had entered civilian areas in various villages of Tangmarg in north Kashmir.
North Kashmir Wildlife Warden Mohammad Maqbool Baba told Kashmir Reader that two employees identified as Ashiq Ahmad and Riyaz Ahmad were injured when they were trying to get hold of bears in Tangmarg.
“In two separate villages, a trap was laid, in which five black bears including three cubs were caught. During the operation, two employees also injured, but are stable,” he said.
The department had sent its team to the area after receiving complaints from locals about the presence of wild bears. Soon after the complaints, the department installed two cages in Chandil and Bungam villages, where the bears were caught.
Presence of black bears and leopards in residential areas occur due to the non availability of food in the forest which are a natural habitat for the wild animals.
Baba appealed people living close to forest areas not to come outside their homes during evening.
