Baramulla residents outraged as 97 transformers damaged

BARAMULLA: At least 97 electric transformers have been damaged across district Baramulla this winter – which has outraged the residents who slam the authorities for increasing their miseries.
The official sources in the power development department said that 33 transformers have been damaged in sub division Baramulla, 26 in Sopore, 19 each in Tangmarg and Pattan sub divisions in this winter – which were moved to different workshops in Baramulla, Sopore while some were shifted to Srinagar and Pampore departmental workshops.
They said that several were repaired and sent back to their respective areas.
An official in the department said that people are using heaters and boilers at the same time mostly in evening hours due to which transformers could not bear load and getsdamaged. He appealed to the consumersnot to use cooking/ heating heaters and boilers and use the electricity only for light.
The people said that there are many areas in the district where transformers gets damaged two to three times in a week and people repaired it in private workshops.
The people of Malpora area of Baramulla said that their electric transformer wasdamaged three times in two weeks.
The people of Darululoom colony here in Sheeri Baramulla are without electricity from past ten days and people are forced to charge theirportable lights and cell phones at other areas. They said that their 100 KV transformer got damaged ten days ago and after lot of struggle the department repairedit.
“However, it was again damaged,” they said.
They appealed to the department to provide them a new transformer that can bear the load.
