Fresh landslides block Srinagar-Jammu highway

SRINAGAR: Fresh landslides on Srinagar-Jammu highway again resulted in closure for the road for vehicular traffic on Wednesday.
The road was briefly thrown open for traffic earlier in the day on Wednesday. However, traffic was again halted after landslides occurred between Ramban-Banihal stretch.
A senior traffic official told Kashmir Reader that traffic from Jammu to Srinagar came to halt when fresh landslides hit the highway at Panthihal.
According to him, it blocked the highway and left hundreds of vehicles stranded on the mountainous road.
“The traffic movement is closed until the road is cleared. Nothing can be said about it. So whenever the road gets cleared, the vehicles from Srinagar to Jammu will be allowed to proceed,” the official added.
Meanwhile, weather conditions improved a day after snow returned to the Valley.
According to Metrological Department’s Deputy Director Mukhtar Ahmad, there was no snowfall anywhere in the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
In day temperature, he said, there are chances of improvement, while night temperature is further going to drop.
