Power outages in Srinagar, elsewhere as Pampore line suffers damage

Srinagar: Hundreds of neighbourhoods in Srinagar and Budgam districts of the Valley on Friday plunged into darkness after the 33 kilowatt power supply line got snapped due to ‘bad weather’.
The line supplies electricity to vast areas in Srinagar and Budgam.
According to locals, there were unscheduled power outages since morning and electricity was yet to be restored till evening.
“We have been facing power shutdown off and on without any schedule but today was a worst kind of scenario,” said Shabir Ahmad of B K Pora.
He said they contacted the local receiving station but they expressed helplessness.
“Employees of the grid station informed us that a 33 KV supply line coming from Pampore grid station has got damaged. This line faces the fault regularly which turns things difficult for people,” Ahmad said.
The affected areas include Nowgam, Kanihama, Lasjan, Panthachowk Chattergam, Khanda, Shankerpora, SK Bagh and Aribagh.
Muhammad Azhar of Sheikh-Ul-Alam Colony Nowgam said the power breakdown on Pampore grid had been giving them nightmares due to frequent cuts.
“We are facing regular power interruptions during winters and in rainy season. It leads to voltage fluctuation which damaged our transformer,” he said.
“We have requested the concerned officials of the power corporation to repair the transformer but they turn deaf ears towards our pleas,” said Azhar.
Power Development Corporation Superintendent Engineer, Wali Muhammad Mir told Kashmir Reader that the bad weather had damaged the conductor at Lasjan which had snapped the power supply to several areas in Srinagar and elsewhere. He said that work is going to restore power supply as soon as possible.
“We have fixed the damaged line and charged the conductor. The electricity will now be restored to all the areas,” he said.
