Fuel shortage hits Srinagar as tankers denied entry

SRINAGAR: Fuel stations in Srinagar are running dry as tankers carrying petrol and diesel are being denied entry into the city.
President petrol pump owners in Kashmir, Bilal Ahmad Bhat said that Traffic Police had stopped tankers at Pantha Chowk from entering into the city.
“The tankers laden with petrol and diesel are bound for the fuel pumps across Srinagar,” he said.
According to him, tankers were stopped on the pretext that only one-way traffic is allowed on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Complaining about fuel shortage at the petrol pumps in Srinagar city, Bhat questioned how a few tankers could impact the traffic on the highway.
“They should allow tankers to enter the city more importantly when the pumps are almost running dry,” he said.
The tankers, he said, were bound for the petrol pumps at M A Road in the city centre, Batmaloo and several other areas in downtown Srinagar.
