We lack handcarts SMC does not heed to our demands: Sanitation workers

SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) sanitation workers said that the Corporation has failed to give them new handcarts as the old ones are either broken or unworkable.
The sanitation workers said that they are facing difficulties as their handcarts have been damaged.
“The Corporation has provided some equipment’sto us, but they have not issued handcarts. We have to clean the city and collect garbage from different sites. We are facing difficulties to bring the garbage at the particular site where all the solid waste is collected by the corporation,” they said.
“We have already informed the Corporation regarding this problem, but did not heed to our demands. We were repairing the handcarts by our own expensesastheyhave been fully damaged now,’’ said a group of sanitation workers from SMC.
They added, “The Corporation should give us any alternative till the new handcart will be issued.”
Chief Sanitation Officer of SMC, Syed Nissar Hussain told Kashmir reader that the Corporation has already issued 10 handcarts to its sweepers. “Within 15 days, the Corporation will issue handcarts to the sanitation workers with proper verification through its ward officers,” he said.
“We have already disturbed the winter uniform, water proof winter gloves, raincoat and spade,” he said.
