Air traffic resumes partially at Srinagar Airport

Srinagar: Aerial traffic was partially restored at Srinagar Airport on Saturday but the Srinagar-Jammu highway continues to remained shut for third consecutive day leaving hundreds of commuters stranded.
An official of Airport Authority of India confirmed that flight operations resumed at the airport after seven days saying that only 14 flights were able to arrive and depart from Srinagar.
According to him, 14 flights scheduled in the morning were cancelled as a layer of fog resulted in low visibility. However as the day progressed, visibility improved leading to restoration of flight operations. Twenty eight flights were scheduled at the airport on Saturday.
The resumption of flights to Srinagar provided respite to hundreds of flyers who were stranded for last week.
However, the 300 km Srinagar-Jammu highway remained shut for vehicular traffic for third consecutive day as landslides blocked the road at several places.
Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural, Muzzafar Ahmad Shah said fresh landslide occurred at several places including Digdol and Batote hampered road clearance operation.
More than 2,800 vehicles, according to him, are stranded on the highway and efforts are on to clear them as soon as possible.
He said that men and machinery have been pressed into service to clear the road for traffic.
Likewise, Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal road is also closed for traffic.
Meanwhile, Director Meteorological department Sonum Lotus predicted another wet spell after December 19.
