NBCC fails to complete construction of varsity buildings at Ganderbal

Srinagar: Four years after committing to complete the work within six months, the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) has failed to complete construction of two buildings at the Central University’s Ganderbal campus.
The NBCC had started the work on two pre-engineered building (PEB) structures in 2015, official sources told Kashmir Reader.
According to them, they specifically set six months deadline to complete the works on these two structures. But four years down the line, the construction is still pending, they said.
It was learnt that the varsity’s vice chancellor took up the matter with the concerned chairman last year to no avail.
Faced with criticism for the delay in shifting the campus from its makeshift buildings in Srinagar, the university administration established two departments including IT&SS and Physics into one of the under construction buildings last year.
A university official said that they have withheld the agency’s pending dues to till the construction is complete.
Vice Chancellor CUK, Prof Merajuddin Mir acknowledged that there had been a deadlock with the NBCC over the incomplete construction work.
He said that they we are in touch with construction agency over the issue.
Officials at the NBCC could not be contacted for comments.
