Drivers of private school stage protest in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: A protest was Monday held outside the District Development Commissioner Baramulla office by the drivers of a leading private school seeking immediate release of their salaries.
The drivers working at SRM Welkin School who were more than 20 in number assembled outside the office and sought intervention of administration for early release of their salaries that have been with held since August. The drivers said that the school authorities had withheld their salaries and were not allowing them inside the school premises.
They alleged that the school had charged transport charges from parents during the lockdown period and were unnecessary delaying their salary. According to them, they have been engaged from March to December period with undertakings that they will be paid for these months even if school remains shut in wake of any untoward situation.
The agitated drivers later met the ADC Baramulla and sought his intervention for early release of their salary. Meanwhile, Transport In charge SRM Welkin School Waseem Ahmad refuted that the school has charged parents of students any fee on account of transport.
He rebutted the claim made by drivers that they are not allowed in the school premises and said they did not report to the school despite being asked to.
