HC directs Baramulla admin to remove cab stand from state land

SRINAGAR: The J&K High Court has directed the district administration and Police in Baramulla to remove encroachment immediately from state land occupied by cab drivers at Azadgunj, Baramulla and file a compliance report November 8.
The order came as Division Bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Rashid Ali Dar heard a contempt petition filed by residents of Azadgunj alleging violation of court order dated November 23, 2015 passed in a public interest litigation regarding encroachment of the stat eland by cab operators.
The petitioners alleged that a big chunk of state land has been encroached by cab drivers for utilization as a ‘Sumo Stand” in Azadgunj, Baramulla.
“The respondents have filed the statement of facts, perusal whereof reveals that nothing substantial has been done by the authorities concerned to ensure implementation of the directions of this Court by removing the encroachments over the State land in question,” the court said, while directing the Executive Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Baramulla; Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla; Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla; and Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Baramulla to ensure removal of encroachment from the state land in question and report compliance by 8th November.
