Amid shutdown, children addicted to smartphone games

SRINAGAR: The continuous shutdown and communication blackout since August 5 has led children to get addicted to smartphones games, which according to doctors will have adverse effect on their health.
In south Kashmir,kids can be seen engrossed in playing offline games. Mudasir Ahmad, a class 8 student spent most of his time in playing games.
“We play games on smartphones as schools are shut and we have no work to do. I play 15 offline games whole day. In mini militia game, we connect the phones via wifi and hotspot and make teams and play for the whole day,” he said.
Suhaib Ahmad, another student said that the ongoing uncertainty has heavily affected their studies. He said that he has lost interest in studies.
“Since the last winter, I was preparing for the board exams.But after the abrogation of Article 370, I lost interest in studies. Now I spend most of the time watching movies and playing games,” he said.
A concerned parent, whose children are sitting idle at home, said that this kind of activity will affect the health of children.
“By playing games, they kill time. They have no other means to spent their time,” he said.
Muhammad Yasin, a government employee said that he carries both of his mobile phones with him. “I only want my children not to get addicted to the phones,” he said.
A doctor posted in Shopian said, “I suggest parents not to give phones to their children for more than an hour or two, and should advise them to play outdoor games to kill time.”
