Dentists resent Sunday duty roster

SRINAGAR: A group of dentists on Saturday resented the recent order by Zonal Medical Officer Batamaloo asking dental surgeons to attend emergency duties on Sundays which they say is the violation of medical and service rules.
The dental surgeons (DS) told Kashmir Reader that they don’t come under the category of emergency staff as they can’t handle critical cases coming to the hospital on the off-day.
“The duty roster by the ZMO Batamaloo is illogical and unjust. We already have many medical doctors available to attend emergency duties on Sundays,” said one of the dental surgeons.
“Most of us have kept Sundays for other important engagements as it’s our weekly off but the recent order comes as shocker for us. She is quite insensitive and took the decision in haste,” he said.
Another surgeon, wishing anonymity said that the ZMO has some personal vendetta against some dentists that is why she has issued the roster.
“She didn’t think about the veracity and consequences of the order against the wishes and rights of an important professional,” she said.
On September 26, ZMO Batamaloo has issued a duty roster asking nine dental surgeons of the zone to attend duty on the off-day at three Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) including UPHC Batamaloo, UPHC Chanapora and UPHC Khanmoh.
Director Health Services, Kashmir Kunzes Dolma said she will look into the grievances.
“I will enquire the matter and take necessary action if required,” she said.
SMC started issuing the date of birth and death certificates which was affected due to internet shutdown.
