After 2 months, SMC starts issuing birth, death certificates

SRINAGAR: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has resumed issuing permanent date of birth and death certificates to the applicants, which was affected by internet blackout from the past two months.
After the internet was shut on August 5 by the government, Srinagar Municipal corporation has issued 450 temporary death and date of birth certificates to the applicants.
As per the official records of the SMC, 301 birth and death certificates has been issued after the internet has been restored at the Corporation.
An official from the SMC said we have started issuing permanent date of birth and deaths certificates from October 5, which was affected due to internet shutdown.
“The applicants who did not apply for the death of birth and death certificates during a period of one year, have to visit the court, and after that the court gives directions to the SMC and we will then issue the certificates to the applicants,” he said.
He added that we have also registered 450 forms online, which have been issued on the temporary basis. Nearly 150-200 people are applying for the certificates on daily basis in the Corporation.
“The hospital authorities have to register the date of birth of those infants who were born in hospital coming under the SMC limits on our website within the period of 29 days. During this time, these cases are directly registered online in the SMC. From August 5, the hospitals were not able to register the births of the infants on our website till this date,” he stated.
