8 injured in grenade attack in Srinagar

Srinagar: At least eight civilians including a woman were wounded in a grenade blast at Srinagar’s Hari Singh High Street on Saturday.
The grenade exploded on a roadside in the market, injuring eight people, he said, adding that the wounded were rushed to a hospital here.
According to the official, the explosion also damaged windows of a vehicle parked nearby.
While shops were closed but only street vendors were doing business when blast occurred. The sound of the blast caused panic in the market and people ran for safety.
An official said that injured were immediately evacuated to SMHS Hospital for treatment.
Soon after the attack, government forces sealed the area and intensified searches at checkpoints on major roads in Srinagar. Police and CRPF soldiers manning checkpoints were seen frisking commuters and checking their I-cards.
It was the third grenade attack in the valley after abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. The first grenade attack took place on the CRPF in Nawa Kadal in Srinagar followed by an attack in Anantnag district near District Commissioner’s office on October 5, resulting in the injuries to 14 civilian.
