SRINAGAR: A newly constructed flyover from Jahangir Chowk to Rambagh has become a new hub for joggers, who are mesmerised by the natural beauty in its backdrop.
People come from distant places of Srinagar for a morning walk. They say they love to walk on this flyover in the morning and watching sunrise.
Ather Rasheed Pandit, a resident of Pamposh Colony, Natipora, said that there are more than 20 people from his locality who jog every morning on this newly constructed flyover.
“There is no park in our area, which has forced people to use this flyover for jogging in the morning hours,” he said.
Not only people from vicinity frequent this flyover for early morning walk, but many like Ayaz Zehgeer, a businessman, comes from Maharaj Gunj area in old city for a jog.
He said that the rush of joggers on this flyover is due to the less garbage over the stretch and serene surroundings.
For Afroza, who is from Baghat, come along with her niece for jog because of cleanliness and negligible dog presence.
“We use to take a walk on the main road, but we would encounter stray dogs at various spots. This flyover is safe and clean,” she said.
The traffic officials say that pedestrians should not use the flyover as it is not meant for such purpose.
“The pedestrians should use the main road which has separate pedestrian path,” said a traffic official posted near an adjacent flyover.
He said that they have already posted a personnel to stop any vehicular movement coming from a wrong direction at Rambagh area and will have to aware the joggers on hazards of using the flyover for such early morning walks.
