Fresh protests leave 20 injured 

Srinagar: At least twenty protesters were injured in fresh clashes in Shopian, Kulgam,  Anantnag and Ganderbal districts on Monday.

Reports and witnesses said that youth angered over Sunday’s killings engaged in various incidents of stone pelting on the forces deployed across various areas.

The forces responded with fired pellets and tear gas to disperse the protesters, triggering further clashes.

Reports said that intense clashes erupted in Kulgam district after youth defied curfew and hurled rocks at the forces. The forces responded by aerial firing. However, there was no immediate report of any injuries.

In Shopian, at least a dozen protesters were injured in clashes with the forces. Reports said that at least four youth with pellet injuries were referred to Srinagar from sub-district hospital Shopian.

Four protesters injured in clashes with forces in Seer Hamdan area of Anantnag were brought to the district hospital for treatment, said a report.

In another incident a youth was injured when a police party chased some stone pelting youth in Kangan area of Ganderbal district.

A police spokesman said that some youth tried to disrupt traffic in Kangan area by pelting stones on the moving vehicles. A police party reached the spot on seeing which the miscreants started running during the course of which a youth identified as Gowhar Ahmad Rather S/O Abdur Rahman Rather R/O Kangan fell down and was injured as his head crashed on a drain.

The injured youth was taken to Trauma Hospital Kangan from where he was referred to SKIMS Soura. Reports regarding bullet injury are completely false since no bullet was fired on the spot, a police spokesman clarified.
